The burgeoning population, ever-increasing residential and commercial buildings and progressive modernization has led to a rising demand for trained electricians. As a result, in the recent years, the electrician trade has become a sought after option for most ITI students, deploma students, b-tech students, engineering students etc..
DEMAND OF ELECTRICIAN TRADE:
Nowadays, people are becoming more aware about the scope of technical education. The need for skilled personnel in various technical fields is increasing day by day, due to the changing economic and industrial scenario of the world. In India, the demand for manpower has grown exponentially due
to the rapid expansion of factories, ports and ships, resulting in the increase of technical jobs. Therefore, technical education plays a vital role in creating skilled manpower for industries. It is a diverse field providing courses and trades in the areas of engineering, technology, management, architecture, town planning, pharmacy, applied arts and crafts, hotel management, catering technology etc.
Qualifications for iti, deploma, b-tech engineering, engineering in Electrician Trade:
Normally a person has passed 10th standard is eligible for admission ITI , for deploma Candidate must have passed his/ her HSC or 10th level exam with Mathematics, Science and English subjects. Qualifying Marks: Candidate must have passed the qualifying exam with at least of 35% marks in aggregate and 30% in each qualifying subject.
Candidates must pass their 10+2 or equivalent exam with a minimum of 50 percent marks from a recognized institution. They must have majored in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in high school. The pupils must pass the entrance exam cut-off. Candidates seeking Lateral Entry into BTech and
Earn a bachelor's degree in engineering from a school accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. Complete at least four years of engineering experience. Pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) examination.
The electrician trade is one of the basic trades of ITI, deploma,b-tech and engineering etc... It is used in factories, workshops, power-houses, business and residential premises. In this trade, the individual's abilities and skills are recognized and rewarded. The trade comprises of aspects like electrical installation, maintenance, repairing and fitting of electrical machinery and equipments. Electricians also make connections and solder terminals, test electrical installation and equipment and locate faults using megger, test lamp etc. Repairing and replacement of defective wiring, burnt out fuses and defective parts is done by electricians.
The electrician trade is established for the provision of electrical services by an electrician. Electrician work areas include installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading electrical systems and gadgets. Many of these areas are also related to the study of power.
The work involved in this field is closely related to the technical and theoretical concept of electricity. Hence, only a trained person can handle these tasks.
Working Conditions in the Electrician Trade:
The surroundings and working conditions of the electrical trade are favourable. The trade offers opportunities for indoor and outdoor work. Working hours and conditions of the trade permit the electrical worker to find pleasure in doing a first-class job. Journeymen have the opportunity to deal with customers; therefore, personal conduct of an experienced worker affects his future advancement in the trade and industry. This trade requires a high degree of accountability on the part of the trained technician since he is responsible for interconnecting and constructing complex electrical systems.
In a typical work setting, electricians:

Physical Work Conditions
• Work both indoors and outdoors. • Are often exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures depending on the time of year.
• Are often exposed to hazardous conditions, equipment, and situations. They work with sharp tools and electricity that could potentially produce cuts or burns.
• Wear safety attire, such as goggles or other protective clothing.
• Are often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are uncomfortable and distracting.
• Usually work in very bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
•Regularly work in cramped spaces and high places.
• Are often exposed to contaminants
such as dust.
• Occasionally work in close proximity to others, usually within arm's reach.

The general public's interest in building and construction activities at the present time demands a great number of highly trained electricians. The modern homes, offices and factories require a high degree of proficiency in electrical work. The constant increase in new types of construction, new electrical equipments and new uses for electrical equipment offers increasing employment opportunities for qualified electricians. Responsibilities of an Electrician
1. Installs, services and repairs lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets and wiring.
2. Operates power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment.
3. Installs, repairs and services specialized electrical equipment and machinery.
4. Constructs and maintains service equipment.
5. Reads electrical circuit diagrams.
6. Requisitions material and supplies from stockroom; calls vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies, and recommends purchases and suppliers.
7. Transfers primary power from one power source to another.
8. Installs conductors, splices cable and does the necessary hook-ups for primary power lines.
9. Sets poles, strings overhead lines and conducts overhead line maintenance.
10. Lays underground conduit for electrical lines and installs low voltage electric lines and conduits for telephone systems.
11. May also specialize in other connected trades.
12. Supervises other regular employees during work time; duties include assigning and reviewing work.
13.Installs conduits and pipes to house
electrical wires and cables.
14• Ensures piping complies with electrical codes.
15. Installs circuit breakers and other electrical hardware and connects wiring to them.
16. Connects electrical systems to powerlines to provide electricity to
the building. • Tests electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation
Feedback
17. Inspects electrical systems to determine whether repairs are needed. Replaces conduit and wiring as needed. Replaces circuit breakers as needed.
18.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Electricians are judged by the quality of their work and by their attitude towards fellow workers, employers, and the public. A good electrician takes pride in doing high-quality work and gives an honest day's work. An accurate and complete job is expected in every activity, including the safe handling of materials.
